Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Crust
- 1 package (14.3 ounces) Golden Oreos, crushed
Cream Mixture
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 packages (3.4 ounces each) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 ounces) Cool Whip, thawed
Topping
- Green-tinted shredded coconut (for grass)
- Pastel candy eggs
- Marshmallow chicks or bunnies (optional)
- Jelly beans or edible flowers (optional)
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Crush the Golden Oreos finely using a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin. Set aside.
- Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Prepare the Pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with cold milk until thickened, about 2 minutes.
- Combine Mixtures: Fold the thickened pudding into the cream cheese mixture gently. Then, carefully fold in the thawed Cool Whip until fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble the Dirt Cake: In a 9×13-inch dish or trifle bowl, layer half of the crushed Oreos on the bottom. Spread the creamy pudding mixture evenly over the cookie layer, then top with the remaining crushed Oreos.
- Add the ‘Grass’ and Decorations: Sprinkle green-tinted shredded coconut over the top to mimic grass. Decorate with pastel candy eggs, marshmallow chicks or bunnies, jelly beans, and edible flowers as desired.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the pudding to set.
Notes
- To tint the coconut green, place 1 cup shredded coconut in a zip-top bag with a few drops of green food coloring and shake until evenly colored.
- This dessert can be prepared a day in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator for convenience.
- Use a 9×13-inch dish or a large trifle bowl for layering and serving.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese, pudding, and Cool Whip with suitable plant-based alternatives.
